The Strong Moves Mentoring Program involves mentors working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander school students in years 9, 10 and 11 to consider university as a post-school option.
In 2017, Strong Moves sessions will be run in the Riverina, Central West and Mid-North Coast with Strong Moves Partner Schools.
Strong Moves includes career sessions, guest speakers, team building, course information, support at university, on-campus tours, cultural sessions and various other topics. Students participate in workshops and activities and are able to see first-hand the positives of further study and how it can lead into sustainable employment in their future.
Strong Moves aims to:
- Increase awareness of options for further study and enrolment at a tertiary institution
- Heighten belief that tertiary study is achievable
- Develop positive linkages between Aboriginal community, schools, CSU and Future Move staff
- CSU mentors develop skills that further their professional development and career options
